Medical Carts

Tryten, a manufacturer of lightweight, versatile, and easy-to-move custom medical cart solutions, will be attending the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) conference in 2022. The conference will take place from Nov. 27 to Dec. 1 in Chicago and will boast more than 400 educational sessions. Visit Tryten at Booth 6561 to discuss the latest innovations in radiology and learn how medical devices are deployed and protected on our mobile medical carts

"Radiology Today" noted that the importance of workflows was one of the top takeaways from last year’s conference. Throughout the pandemic, many nonemergent imaging cases were put on hold. Additionally, some imaging professionals chose not to return to the workforce due to the risk of COVID-19. These factors, along with others, led to overworked and understaffed radiology departments, which can eventually lead to burnout. The 2021 RSNA conference held several educational sessions dedicated to streamlining workflows in order to avoid burnout.

Post-pandemic, imaging volumes continue to increase, so efficient workflows will continue to be vital. Another trend from the 2021 show was the increased adoption of remote, virtual support tools for technicians.

Another notable trend discussed at RSNA 2021 was patient-centered care, which is sure to be prominent this year as well. Patients want empathy, respect, and communication from their healthcare providers. Dr. James Merlino, the chief clinical transformation officer at Cleveland Clinic, said the best ways to meet these expectations is by sharing important data between relevant providers, giving providers communication tools and training, improving communication between physicians and nurses, and ensuring the patient is involved in all of these processes.

Why Are Mobile Carts Important?

Medical Carts and Workstations Market by Product and End User: Global Forecast to 2029” states that the integration of IT solutions; adoption of electronic health records (EHRs); and focus on enhancing patient care, safety, and staff productivity are the driving factors shaping the medical cart industry. Additionally, when discussing product type, the report states that mobile computing carts and workstations account for the largest part of the market in 2022.

Over the past couple of years, the medical industry has seen a multitude of changes. From the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic to nationwide workforce shortages, medical facilities have had to continuously adapt in order to continue serving their communities. In fact, the report notes that "hospitals are widely adopting medical carts and workstations as they help the staff by facilitating recording, storing, and dispensing equipment, supplies, and patient information." The report also states that the hospital segment is expected to hold the largest share of the medical cart market throughout the entirety of 2022.

Among the many changes facing hospitals and healthcare providers is the rise of telehealth’s popularity. A recent study from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) found that telehealth visits increased from approximately 840,000 in 2019 to 52.7 million in 2020.

Just like any industry utilizing virtual communication software, hospitals and medical clinics need easy-to-operate tools and equipment in order to ensure both telehealth and in-person visits are offering the best possible experience for patients.

Benefits of Medical Carts

Although virtual provider-patient communication is a major perk, the benefits of medical carts go far beyond the telehealth market. Meds News cited five key ways medical carts benefit healthcare facilities today:

  • Higher-quality patient care: Mobile medical carts offer immediate access to emergency services and patient information, all while enhancing patient data security.
  • Improved productivity: Mobile carts save time on the floor, serving as information hubs for doctors and nurses.
  • Better workflow efficiency: When using mobile carts, hospital professionals spend less time entering data, gathering supplies, and relaying information.
  • More accurate patient documentation: With mobile carts, electronic medical records (EMRs) can be updated without a nurse having to go back to the central nurses’ station. With the ability to enter data immediately, there is a lower chance of documentation errors.
  • Lower operational costs: All of the above productivity enhancements, combined with the space and energy savings that mobile carts offer, lead to lower overall operational costs for healthcare facilities.

Medical carts are also used for virtual remote interpretation, so patients who speak different languages can easily digest their medical information. Additionally, medical carts are a great way to keep EHRs. Today’s compact carts make it easy to store all records in one place, rather than having to use several different platforms and programs.

Hospitals are adopting virtual rounding as opposed to traditional in-person rounds. Medical carts give healthcare professionals the flexibility to mobilize their tablets and telehealth tools. In fact, in 2020, Tryten and Logitech launched the Virtual Rounding Assistant With Logitech MeetUp, which aids the delivery of virtual healthcare expertise, allowing healthcare workers to conduct their rounds without the need for personal protective equipment (PPE).

In short, the right medical carts can reduce operational costs, expand the pool of patients a facility can help, and improve patient engagement.
